Mission
Formed in April of 2009, Factory 449: a theatre collective has approached its inaugural season with a working mission-in-development: …committed to maintaining an ensemble of multi-disciplinary artists and professionals who are dedicated to the collaborative process of creating “theatre as event.” The members of this collective will assume roles involved in the development of new productions, affording artists the opportunity to write, act, direct, design and produce. History
Since its formation in April 2009, Factory 449 has been granted its Articles of Incorporation from the District of Columbia, and has filed for its 501(c)3 non-profit corporation status.
Factory 449 launched the company with a workshop production of Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis which was produced, in part, with the Capital Fringe Festival in July 2009. 4.48 Psychosis was awarded the Audience Choice Awards for Best Drama and Best Overall Production and received an award for Best Festival Play from DC Theatre Scene. Due to consistently sold-out performances, the Capital Fringe Festival granted 4.48 Psychosis an additional late-night performance, which also sold out. 4.48 Psychosis was remounted as Factory 449’s inaugural full-scale production in October 2009 at the Warehouse Theatre. The production performed to full houses, received excellent reviews and was named a featured event for the 2009 United Nations Association Week.
